I’m originally from Mafikeng which means very hot summers and moderately cold winters.
I’ve lived in Pretoria for the past four years which meant slightly less warm summers and slightly colder winters..
Now I’m in Johannesburg and its just that much colder :(.
I’ve always said I’m not a fan of winter, and Jhb is just so cold to me 🙁 (although apparently I should count my blessings because I’m not enduring Cape Town’s winter).
So with winter almost officially here what better time than now to have a winter survival post, well more like a winter fashion survival post that is. Here are my winter essentials that every working woman should have in her closet:
1. Knit long sleeve dress
Like the one pictured below, buy lots of them! Knit dresses can easily transition from work to a night out. They are so versatile and can be dressed with a blazer/formal coat over or with a collared shirt underneath for a more sophisticated look or a sleek bomber jacket and sneakers to go out. Every woman should definitely own at least one of these.
Yes gloves, I love that there’s so much variety out there now, I’ve managed to get a few from H&M and Refinery, some with bows and one with chain detail, I’ll show them on another blog post .. even though they can be counter productive (typing on keyboards or phones) they add a much needed touch of class- and warmth- to any outfit.
3. Polo neck tops, lots of them!
Get them in all colors and textures, oversized or fitted. These are my go to for my work outfits. Whether its layered underneath a fitted blazer or worn alone with a pencil skirt they are chic, they are versatile, they are much needed. I would say they are easily the most easy to wear item in my closet.
4. Black ankle boots
I don’t think much explanation is needed here. They just work.
5. Black coat or blazer
I still love my summer clothes and still want to to wear the pieces throughout winter but reality is it gets cold. The best way to get away with it is to throw a classic black coat or blazer that goes with anything over it.
I’d love to know what your go to essentials for your winter wardrobe are.. feel free to share below
