My Favorite Inspirational Quotes

I love reading quotes. I have quotes all over my phone for easy access lol. If you follow me on Instagram (@pelontle_m) you’ll notice I caption a lot of my images with quotes. It’s not just for show, I actually believe in them lol.

I think the reason I love reading them, especially if I can relate to them, is their ability to make you feel like someone out there knows exactly how you feel.

They make me feel like I’m not the only one that needs to hear those words. Like if someone managed to put into words what I was feeling, thinking or going through then it means whatever I’m going through, I’m not going through it alone.

My boss once asked me what makes me wake up in the morning. Why do I do what I do? This was pretty easy for me to answer as I live by a certain quote in my life:

Be who you needed when you were younger

I think I came across this quote in my final year of studies. It’s stuck with me ever since.

Whenever I stop and I’m feeling bleh, like I don’t wanna do things anymore or if I’m thinking of starting a new venture. Whether it’s studying further, continuing with my blog or planning my career and giving my all to it, I ask myself, is this something I’d be proud of if I had to look at myself through the eyes of my younger self? Am I becoming the person my younger self would’ve loved to look up to? Am I even accessible to the people who now represent my younger self?

Growing up I never really felt like I could identify with pretty much anyone. Don’t get me wrong there were plenty beautiful, smart, strong, powerful women around me. I just couldn’t find that one that where I could say ‘she is soooo me’ or ‘that’s who I want to be when I grow up’. So now I live my life trying to be there for that little girl who couldn’t relate to many other girls. Don’t get me wrong I know I needed a perfect idol, I’m not trying to be that lol. Perfection is overrated. I’m just trying to be my best for her.

So with all that in mind one quote sums up this mindset beautifully.

With that said, I thought I’d kick off the year by sharing some of the quotes that have inspired me over the years. These are the ones I keep going back to I hope they give you a little kick in the right direction for the year ahead.

Oh and Happy 2018 :).

My all time favorite quotes:

You are not meant to bear that which you find unpleasant, you are meant to change it that’s why you feel it

(This one is one of the reasons I started my blog. I was complaining about how there’s  lack of representation of the traditional working woman and how they should dress in the South African fashion blogosphere since not all of us dress all fun and creatively in our day-to-day lives and then I came across this quote)

You were given this life because you are strong enough to live it

Do the best you can until you know better. And when you know better, do better- Maya Angelou

My mission in life is not merely to survive but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humour and some style.

— Maya Angelou

Have your own definition of success…so you can fulfill your dreams, not someone else’s expectations of your dreams.

—Elliot Fletcher
