Check-In: June 2017

I love reading other blogs out there and I’ve noticed that the posts I love most from my favorite bloggers are the ones where I get to know a little bit more about them. That personal touch really makes a blog stand out for me. So I’ve decided to do a check-in every now and then to get you up to date with what’s going on with my life. This is really just an overview of the big things that have happened in my life recently.

I’m not too sure about how often I’m gonna be doing these, monthly or quarterly or whatever. For now though I’ll start with a check for the first half of the year.

Here we go.

THE DOWNS

It’s been a bit of a bumpy ride this year, a bunch of ups and a couple of downs.

The year hasn’t really gone as I had planned. I guess that’s kind of how life goes right? You plan stuff and life is like nah lol. But you know what God says right?

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord,  “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Anyway onto what’s been going on. My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer in March. Those that know me well know that my mom’s health journey has been a roller coaster ride for most of our lives and for her to get cancer after a few years of good health reeeaaalllyyy knocked me down and kind of put me completely off balance. So I haven’t really been invested in much other aspects of my life like my job, my blog, studies. My head’s been all over the place and I’ve been completely unmotivated. She’s doing well although seeing her go through chemo was painful.

We caught the cancer pretty early on though so it’s not all doom and gloom and things are looking up.

THE UPS

With that said though I really feel like the blog has been doing well. I had major plans for it which I haven’t really gotten to yet but hopefully that will change soon. Buuut one of the big things I did for my blog is finally starting my YouTube channel which was and still is extremely intimidating for me. I’m kind of shy and pictures are just not the same as video lol so it was a big step.

I can’t wait to bring you all more exciting content.

One of the things that brings me the most fulfillment is being able to inspire other people, young or old. I got the opportunity to work with an NGO called Young Legacy where they had an event to inspire young girls. Myself and a few other ladies were asked to speak about our life journeys and have one on one sessions with that learners that attended. I have never felt more inspired myself to go out there and do more. I’m still in contact with the girls I met and will be doing more of these in the future.

I  also recently, like very recently decided to further my studies and will be registering for a few courses- still tryna figure it out though.

I’m going to be having a pretty busy second half of the year but I’m looking forward to it.

So yea that’s me for now.

    Hey Pelo

I must admit, I haven’t been doing much reading and observing (and learning) from other bloggers, I should do that often as I am very new to this! I really enjoy your blog, keep it up!

I’d also like to wish your mom a speedy recovery, and may you remain strong.

All the best, and thanks for sharing.

    xx

Hey Kim, I feel one of the best ways to learn is to look at others who have been where you are.
Thanks for the love and support, I really appreciate it. Mom is on the path to recovery as I type…
